It is the month of "separation", so called because the pagan Arabs used to disperse in search of water.The fifteenth night of this month is known as the "Night of Records" (Laylat al-Baraat).Shaban is the last lunar month before Ramadan, and so Muslims determine in it when the first day of Ramadan fasting will be.In the post-Tanzimat Ottoman Empire context, the word was, in French, the main language of diplomacy and a common language among educated and among non-Muslim subjects, spelled as Chaban. The current Turkish spelling today is Şaban. The virtues of Shaban is mentioned in various traditions of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.Aisha, the wife of Muhammad, narrated that "(she) did not see him fasting in any month more than in the month of Shaban," except Ramadan.In another narration the Prophet Muhammad said, "Do those deeds which you can do easily, as Allah will not get tired (of giving rewards) till you get bored and tired (of performing religious deeds)."Shab-e-Barat, Barat Night, Cheragh e Barat, Berat Kandili, or Nisfu Syaaban (in Southeastern Asian Muslims) Shab-e-Barat is one of the major festivals for the Muslims, celebrated on the 15th night (the night on 15th only) of the month of Shaban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. This blessed night starts at sunset on the 15th Shaban and ends at dawn on the 15th of Shaban. Different countries have different ways of celebrating this day and each has a different name for it. Shab-e-Barat is observed simultaneously with the Shia Mid-Shaban Mahdi birthday festival, but Barat has different origins.Some people mistake Shab-e-Barat festival as it is not a festival and Shia Mid-Shaban ceremony as they take place at the same time, but Shab-e-Barats rituals and styles differ from region to region, while Mid-Shaban is celebrated the same everywhere. The observance of Barat involves a festive nightlong vigil with prayers. In most regions, it is a night when ones deceased ancestors are commemorated.Shab-e-Barat is considered a major event in the Islamic calendar, where Muslims collectively worship and ask for forgiveness of their wrongdoings. It is believed to reward them with fortune for the whole year and cleanse them of their sins. In many regions, it is also a night when prayers are offered to forgive ones deceased ancestors. Additionally, Twelver Shia Muslims commemorate the birthday of Muhammad al-Mahdi. Salafi adherents oppose the recognition of Mid-Shaban as exceptional for prayer.[5] Because there is no evidence was found that the Prophet Muhammad or his noble companions or family ever celebrated or commemorated the night of Shab-e-Barat. But according to a hadith tradition it is known that, the prophet Muhammad went into the graveyard of Baqi on this night and he prayed for the Muslims buried there.
